![Severe weather alert for Kent]()
This is Kent -- Up to 65 mph gales and heavy rain are expected to hit Kent this evening. The Highways Agency is advising motorists to be cautious as the bad weather will make driving conditions hazardous from 7pm to midnight. Drivers with vulnerable vehicles are being asked to avoid places, such as the A2 Jubilee Way close to Dover, the M2 between Junctions 2 to 3 along the Medway Viaduct and the A249 Kings Ferry/Sheppey Crossing. The Port of Dover is advising its customers to contact their ferry operator as journeys could be disrupted by tonight's weather. The Queen Elizabeth II bridge at Dartford will also be experiencing high gusts from 9pm until midnight. Helen Chivers, a Met Office spokesman said: "Kent will miss the worst of the weather. But motorists would need to be aware the weather will be wet and windy and traffic conditions will be very difficult." A Highways Agency spokesman said: "Road users driving high-sided vehicles, riding motorcycles or towing any kind of trailer are being urged to check traffic and weather conditions before setting out on journeys and to heed any advice such as speed restrictions once they are on the strategic road network." In a statement released by the Port of Dover it said: "In anticipation of the high winds (potentially in excess of 50 knots) which are forecast for tonight (Wednesday 18th December) between 1900hrs and 0300hrs, the Port of Dover is advising its customers to contact their ferry operator and check the Port's website (www.doverport.co.uk) or twitter account (@Port_of_Dover) for the latest information on Channel crossings."
