This is Devon --
WITH recent reports of Sutton Harbour Holdings' plans for the Barbican, building more restaurants and shops, my husband and I fully support the residents and shop owners against the plan.
Any more restaurants and shops will put more pressure on the shops and restaurants already in the Barbican area.
It is not fair on the people who live there, apart from all the noise, what about the extra traffic it will create? Furthermore, there is a lot of history and historical buildings in that area, such as the Fisherman's Cottages.
There are enough restaurants, pubs and clubs in that area. We have stopped going for walks on the Barbican as SHH have spoilt it with all the bars and clubs. It used to be picturesque and unspoilt, not any more.
To my mind SHH and other developers are trying to make as much profit as possible. If SHH had spent more time and explored all possibilities, advertising and promoting Plymouth Airport to the rest of the UK, instead of wanting to sell the land for houses, shops etc. we may still have an airport.
They have made a large profit already, yet they can't give the people of Plymouth a mooring place for HMS Plymouth, which belongs here and not to end up as scrap.
Finally, there was a meeting the other day to discuss future plans for Plymouth, yet the only people that attended were business management, councillors, architects and some students who don't live here all year round.
It is time the people of Plymouth were allowed to have a say in this matter, after all it is their city. They pay rent, council tax etc, yet councillors and planning committees don't seem to be listening to the people.
They seem to decide everything and ignore the good people who live in this fine city. When it comes to local and general elections, they are quick enough to ask for your vote.
