KINGS and bishops fought it out in a contest at a Cheltenham school.
Almost 100 children from nine different schools took part in the Cheltenham and District Primary Schools' annual chess congress.
The pupils, aged between seven and 11, met at St Gregory the Great Primary School, Knapp Road, to take part in the all-day event.
Each contestant played seven games in total, with each game awarding three points for a win and two for a drawn match.
Tournament organiser Martin Cole said: "The congress proved a well-attended and exciting event. The levels of concentration and skill caught the eye and there was plenty of high quality chess played throughout the day."
Theo Hepburn of the Richard Pate School and Jacob Hardy of Christ Church were joint winners of the event, each scoring 20 points out of a possible 21. Reported by This is 2 days ago.
