A WOMAN was run over and killed by her own car in a freak accident, leaving a community in Pembury devastated.
Carole Eldridge, 54, was at the Kings Toll Farm stables, in Kings Toll Road, when the tragedy struck on Monday at about 8.30am. There was nobody in the car at the time.
She was hit by her silver Nissan Terrano and her body was trapped under the vehicle for about an hour.
Paramedics were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members paid tribute on Facebook, saying the Matfield resident would be "greatly missed."
Stepson Colin Eldridge said: "Extremely sad week. My lovely step mother died suddenly on Monday in an accident. So sad. She was looking forward to an early retirement in France.
"Thanks for all the love and support from family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her."
The small Kings Toll Road community was left shocked by the incident.
Kent Police were called at 8.30am and South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB) arrived shortly after. Kent Air Ambulance also attended the scene.
SECAMB spokesman Rich Airey said the service received a call at 8.35am, with reports that a woman was under a car and not moving.
He added: "We attended the scene, with a car and ambulance but sadly were unable to revive the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene."
Kent Fire and Rescue Service, with crews from Paddock Wood and Tunbridge Wells, removed the car with specialist lifting equipment after being called at 9.44am, and left at 10.20am.
A Kent Police spokesman said: "A 54-year-old local woman had been hit by a silver Nissan Terrano, which belonged to her, on private property and she suffered fatal injuries.
"The Serious Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene and their investigation is ongoing," he added.
