Palm Sunday procession held in Newnham This is Gloucestershire -- A traditional Palm Sunday procession was held in Newnham today with the congregation walking from the village's clock tower to the church.

A donkey was due to lead the procession, which began at 10.30am, but the poor weather meant the donkey did not arrive until the church service began.

Palm Sunday is the date when Christians celebrate Jesus arriving in Jerusalem on a donkey in the time leading up to his crucifixion.

It was traditional in those times for kings and leaders to ride on a horse, signifying their power. By riding on a donkey, Jesus was showing that he would not be a military leader, but had peaceful intentions. Reported by This is 2 hours ago.
