Satchwell's   Wanderers return secures a   draw with the  Jets This is Tamworth --

TOP of the table Wilnecote Raiders suffered a shock result this week in League Division One of the Tamworth Table Tennis League.

They crashed to a 10-0 defeat to the their nearest rivals TYC Retros with Andy Jackson, Michael Bree and Jody Bevington simply unstoppable.

Third-placed Curdworth Wheelers Pingers sealed an emphatic 9-1 away win over Rugby Kings thanks to trebles from Dawn Sagoo and Tony Stewart, with Paul Burwell scoring twice.

Dean Snowden salvaged a point for the Kings.

Lichfield Kings and Queens emerged victorious in a narrow 6-4 away win over Netherseal Cedar.

Cyril Merriman inflicted the damage on Cedar, taking three wins for the Lichfield side and combining with Varya Meredith to win the doubles in four.

Meredith and David Knight also notched up a singles win each.

In response, Ian Perry scored two for Cedar with Aubrey Henry and Charles Goodall added singles.

Meanwhile, a fine Matt Satchwell hat-trick ensured the TYC Wanderers contest with Lichfield Jets ended in a 5-5 draw. Steve Smith chipped in with one in support.

Smith went on to win the doubles with Liz Merrick in four.

Harry Emberson and Mark Balant both played well for two wins each for the Jets. Jack Gillespie scored once.

In Division Two leaders, Spital Daredevils continue to impress with a resounding 9-1 away win against Jokers B.

A Chris Latham single for Jokers prevented the whitewash.

Paul Bowler and Andy Baker were maximum men for Daredevils with Claire Baker adding a further two points.

A superb Alastair Tallis treble was not enough to prevent second place Jokers A suffering a 7-3 away defeat to Netherseal Oak.

Graham Kettle, Andy Pearce and Brian Hagger all scored twice for Oak.

Lichfield Knaves secured a narrow 6-4 away triumph over Rugby Oddballs thanks in part to three from Neil Lehane.

Lehane also took the doubles in three with Dan Greathead. Pete Collins, with two victories, completed the win for Knaves.

The Oddballs points came courtesy of a Dave Storr brace and a point-a-piece for Kevin Wright and Keith Pratt.

Richard Grove was star player for Curdworth Pongers as they scraped through 6-4 away to Lichfield Musketeers.

Grove took three for Pongers as well as winning the doubles with Pete Bromley, who also add two points to the tally.

In Division Three, in an extremely close contest, TYC Futures emerged triumphant with a 6-4 home win over Spital Mondays.

Sam Bernstein led the charge with three for Futures with Ryan Coady scoring twice and Zorro Kasarge one.

In reply, John Brookes hit two for Mondays and combined with Ian Sketchley to secure the doubles in four. Sketchley added a further singles win.

Andy Brown played well for his pair for Kingsbury Crowns in their 8-2 home defeat against Lichfield Barrons.

The Barrons were too good on the night though with Karl Turner hitting three and Barbara Jones and John Henson both scoring twice.

The clash between Kingsbury Cruisers and TYC Lambs ended in a 5-5 stalemate despite James Shaw's excellent treble for Lambs.

Rob Shaw and Rich Elson chipped in with singles in support.

For Cruisers, Steve Gardner scored twice and won the doubles with Isobel Morrell in three.
